Is ochre yellow or gold?
'Ochre,' it turns out, comes from the Greek for 'pale yellow,' even though the shade is anything but pale yellow. As you can probably guess from the colour, it started life as a natural earth pigment, and it popped up in those really old cave paintings in Lascaux, which are over 17,000 years old!
